Safety and Efficacy of a Very Low Calorie Diet on Fatty Liver

Some obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, are well known, not only in the medical community but also to the greater public. However, other health conditions with equally severe consequences are less frequently discussed — and unfortunately, those at high risk may be unaware of the potential impact. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and/or Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) linked to obesity are prime examples. In this webinar, Peter H. Jones, MD, FACP, FNLA, will discuss both conditions as well as the effects of a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) on patients with NAFLD and NASH.

Presented by Peter Jones, MD, FACP, FNLA

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the clinical presentation and diagnosis of NAFLD and NASH
  • Understand the common association of NAFLD with metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and cardiac dysfunction
  • Examine exercise programs using the FITT principle
  • Discuss the metabolic, hepatic and body weight effects, as well as safety, of a VLCD in patients with NAFLD and NASH
